I eat here once a week and it's always amazing. Tried the crab Rangoon and it wasn't good. First time I've had a dish I didn't like.
Great Pho. I have been their multiple times and always received the most kind and friendly service.
Can't say anything but great things about Kim Vu. As usual the food and appetizers were superb! Started with crispy crab Rangoon and excellent egg rolls served with an extremely tasty sweet and sour dip. My egg drop soup with fresh sprouts and lettuce and jalapeños peppers were fresh and very spicy! The soup was filled with dumplings, noodles and pork! Topped with cilantro it was great! The owner showed me how to add the perfect amount of hot sauce to my taste. My wife had chicken and veggies on fried noodles and raved about the sauce! We will return! If you never tried Vietnamese food this would be a nice place to start!!
Kim Vu is a small, very kind family run restaurant serving absolutely delicious and authentic Vietnamese food. The beef pho, with its side plate of bean sprouts, fresh Thai basil, sliced jalapeños, lime wedge, and culantro (not cilantro) is the perfect garnish for this brothy soup. I get mine with extra bean sprouts and no rice noodles. My hubby likes the stir fried noodle (with beef, chicken, or shrimp) for its' freshness and flavor, with its' still slightly crunchy veggies: mushrooms, snow peas, sweet peppers, onion, and cilantro. People often ask him what he's eating, as its presentation is so inviting! Egg Rolls (pictured) and Crab Rangoon are tasty starters! Dishes are individually made, and the freshness and quality are noticeable, so they may take a little extra time but are well worth the wait! Highly recommend this small but very busy restaurant!
Never any better then Kim Vu Best Vietnamese food ever !! They even have new floors and paint. Looks great. Happy for them. They are the best and ever so friendly owners. Try them you won't be disappointed. Love Kim Vu's.
This review is only for the special rice dish. Everything about this dish was fresh and spot on. The tomatoes and cucumbers were tasty and cut into a perfect size to eat. The rice was perfectly cooked and moist. The chicken was also grilled to perfection and tasty. The sweet and sour carrot sauce gave the dish a wonderful combination of sweet and zip tastes. I definitely recommend this dish!!
I moved away a few years ago. When I'm in town and have time, I try to come here. The owner is unbelievable. He orders, waits, hosts, cleans - always with a smile and keeps everything in order. The food/prices are incredible and consistently great.....I love the pho. Portions are fantastic. I lved in LA for 15 years so I know pho. :)
I lovelovelove the food here. It was my first real experience with Vietnamese food, and I can't go back! Everything here is fresh, tasty, and addictive. And honestly, these are my favorite crab rangoons in the world now. The WORLD. I don't know why, but they're just so much better than everywhere I've had them! It's a small restaurant, so when it's packed (and it often is), it'll be a bit of a wait to get a seat. But oh man, is it worth the wait. I think even if I move from Fort Wayne one day, I'll miss this place because I'm starting to become a regular (and nobody beats these rangoons...).
This was a pleasant surprise in Fort Wayne. I was in town visiting family. We came for dinner the night before we headed back to Chicago. I live in Southern California, so I have tons of great Vietnamese food close by. I was not expecting much when someone suggested Kim Vu. This is a family run business. Service was very polite. Ambiance is not great. It is very plain. They could use some paint and decoration. The food was pretty good. Not the best, but definitely good and satisfying. Portions were generous, and prices were reasonable.
HELLO FORT WAYNERS! So some of you who have been following my account probably think I've been off to Houston and wouldn't do Fort Wayne diner reviews again. Well, here I am revisiting some of my favorite places in the Fort to finally give them the recognition they deserve. (This one's for you Dale!) These reviews will be a little less analytical and more... from the heart, if you will. I won't go too deep into each dish like I normally do, and will instead try to tell you a little story. Just to get it out of the way, here are the dishes you really want from Kim Vu Vietnamese Cuisine: The Vietnamese Dumplings, Spring Rolls, Wonton Noodles, and of course, the Special Rice Noodles with grilled beef and an egg roll on top. Don't order the phở here: Phở and Vietnamese cuisine are not one and the same. Most of us don't even do phở, and the Kim Vu kitchen's specialty is in Central Vietnamese (Huế area) food, represented by the "Vietnamese Dumplings" and "Flat Rice Dumplings" dishes in the menu. (And if you come here just for some orange chicken and judge the place based on that, man, get the hell outta here.) Most of you probably recognize Kim Vu as a pretty good Vietnamese bistro, maybe even the best in the Fort right now. What I don't think many of us realize, however, is just how much of a national treasure Mr. Vu and his little diner really is. I'm a bona fide Vietnamese foodie born and raised in Saigon, and have been to places in the many Little Saigons of California, Dallas, Houston, and even Chicago. Compared to most of these very authentic and often expensive Vietnamese restaurants, this quaint spot in Fort Wayne is not merely something that can kind of approach their quality, like some tend to insinuate. In a lot of aspects, it is straight-up BETTER. For some context, I regard Kim Vu as an equal to The Blind Goat food-wise. It takes Christine-fking-Hà to match the level of taste that this little Midwestern spot offers! Still, perhaps the most notable thing about Kim Vu is not just its consistency in the food they make, but also its stability. This place really hasn't changed at all in 7 years. It was the second spot I ever dined in inside the United States (after 816 Pint & Slice, but that one was kind of whatever), and even now it's still the same dishes, the same owners, the same atmosphere, the same level of service, and even the same PRICES. With everything that's been going on for the last few years, that stability is quite comforting to the heart. It's the kind of place you go to when you don't want to think about where to go to and just want to, well, have some food. This might not sound like such a big deal to some of you, but where I came from, places come and go every year. The city was constantly changing and if I were to come back to Saigon now, I probably wouldn't recognize it anymore. Even back then, I saw many of my favorite childhood joints shut down after a couple of years, or even in the span of a few months. Fort Wayne itself is a changing city too, so having a place you can rely on for 7 years to deliver good food and terrific service is quite a blessing. With inflation and everything going on, such a price-stability also means that effectively, everything got cheaper and cheaper. The place itself hasn't changed, but I find myself appreciating it more and more. The owner even gives us a few boxes of homemade yogurt after every seating! So how was each dish at Kim Vu Vietnamese Cuisine? I don't actually know. I was too busy eating to care.
